Haidh Query

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DaruliftaaZambia.com

Question

It’s a person’s time of haidh.. She only sees a drop of brown discharge for the first day. Then nothing after that. So, what is the ruling regarding it. Should she start her fast and salah? Is it istihadha or haidh

The past months I have been greeting haidh after 21-28 days and for six to 7days

Last month I had gotten haidh after 28 days on the 20th around 4 in the evening and I got paak on the 27 Fajr time. And after 28days just spotted brown discharge on the 24thand nothing from 2days.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In our understanding, your habit is 7 days haidh and 28 days Tuhr (purity).

In principle, discharge of any colour besides pure white is considered to be Haidh blood. Accordingly, the brown discharge you experienced on the 24th should have been Haidh. However, you state that you did not see anything after that one day. Therefore, you will resume performing Salah. Fasts etc.

However, if you see discharge of any colour besides pure white within 15 days from the 24th, then that will be an indication that the initial brown discharge on the 24th was Haidh.

Thereafter, there are two possibilities,

  • The number of days between the brown discharge on the 24th and the blood seen within 15 days of the 24th exceeds 10 days. In this case, you will consider 7 days from the 24th to be your Haidh (as per habit) and the rest will be Istihaadha. Your cycle will remain as 7 days blood and 28 days purity.
  • The number of the days between the brown discharge on the 24th and the blood seen within 15 days is 10 days or less. If this is the case, then in the event you do not see any further discharge within 15 days, you will have created a new Haidh habit. Therefore, your cycle will now be, for example 9 days blood and 28 days purity. If you do see discharge within 15 days, you will revert to your old habit of 7 days blood and 28 days purity.

On the other hand, if you do not see any discharge within 15 days of the 24th, then the brown discharge was not haidh, rather istihaadha.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
