Explanatory Translation

Hereunder is an explanatory translation of the entire narration.

Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has narrated:

“Whilst we were with Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) in our rows in Salah, [either] Zuhur or ‘Asar Salah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) suddenly reached for something and then stepped back, after which the people [also] stepped back.

When he completed the Salah, ‘Ubayy ibn Ka’b (radiyallahu ‘anhu) [inquiringly] said to him: “You did something in the Salah which you never used to do.”

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied: ‘Jannah, with all the beauty and splendor within, was presented to me, so I reached for a cluster of grapes to give you all, but was prevented from doing so.  Had I brought it to you, all those between the Heaven and Earth would have eaten from it, being unable to diminish it in the least!

The fire was then presented to me! When I experienced its blaze, I withdrew from it.

The majority of those I saw therein were women who spread secrets when entrusted; when they are asked, they are stingy, and when they ask others, they do so in a demanding way. –Husayn [ibn Muhammad, when narrating this Hadith] mentioned [that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) added]: And when they are given something, they are not appreciative. –

And I saw, therein, Luhayy ibn ‘Amr dragging his entrails in the fire! The closest one I’ve seen to resemble him is Ma’bad ibn Aktham Al-Ka’bi [radiyallahu ‘anhu].’

Ma’bad [radiyallahu ‘anhu] then said: “O Rasulullah, Am I in danger/should I be scared/worried due to resembling him whereas he was a forefather of mine?”

Nabi (sallallalhu ‘alayhi wasallam) replied: ‘No, you are a believer whilst he is a disbeliever!’

Husayn [when narrating this Hadith] mentioned [that Rasulullah – sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam – said]: ‘I withdrew from it, and had I not done so, it would have engulfed you.’”
