Should a woman make Hijaab from her brother-in-law/s?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Should a wife make Hijaab from her brother-in-law/s?

A. One of the misconceptions that is present in Muslim societies in general is the laxity towards relations with a brother-in-law. However, when we look at the teachings of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam we find that we should be very careful because that laxity can easily lead to sin. Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:

 الحمو الموت

 “The brother-in-law is death”

(Bukhari,Muslim,Tirmidhi)

More so, the wife is considered to be a non-Mahram (stranger) to the brother –in-law and should practice Hijab with such non-Mahrams (strangers).
