FATHER PAYING FOR HIS CHILD TO GO FOR HAJJ

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

If the father of a woman( who does not have her own means to perform hajj) decides to pay for her hajj and asks her if she wants to go, is it obligatory for the woman according to shariah to say yes to go to hajj? Or can she say no and delay it till she has her own money?

ANSWER:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

If the father wants to carry his daughter for hajj and he pays for her, then she should not refuse this. She must look at this as an opportunity to perform the hajj, as it is a very great act of Ibadah (worship). Although she does not have the means, this must not cause her to refuse to go for hajj when her father is paying all her expenses. If however, she is married, then she must seek the permission from her husband for going to hajj with her father, seeing that this is a Nafl Hajj for her (since she did not possess the means on her own). If she is not married, then her father is her wali (guardian) and Ameer and there is no permission to be sought from anyone. Therefore, seeing that the father is being so kind to his daughter to pay for her hajj and take her with him on this scared journey, she must not refuse this and say ‘no’ and delay it until she has her own money.
