Prayer: Can the follower ‘ read the Fatiha in their mind’?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Being that the muqtadhi doesn’t recite anything in congregation prayer, what is one supposed to think about during that period of silence in prayer? Is it permissible to read the fatihah in one’s mind?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

There is nothing wrong in reading the Fatiha in one’s mind (without pronouncing it with one’s lips) when praying in congregation as a follower.

One should bring to mind the tremendousness of Allah and that one is in His presence.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
