As Salaamu Alaikum,

Is it permissible to accept donations from non-Muslims for a Mosque?

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

The Fuqaha (Jurists) have written that it is permissible to accept help/donation from non-Muslims for the Masjid when three conditions are present. These are:-

  1. The person donates something out of his own free will and is not compelled to do so.
  2. The person considers his donation/help to the Masjid as an act of goodness and religiousness.
  3. The person does not give a donation with the aim of soliciting donations from the Muslims to build religious temples and churches etc.

When these conditions are present, it will be permissible to accept their help and donations.
