Getting affected by jinns

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question:

If someone is getting affected by jinns in any way…whether it’s dreams or in the literal life is it permissible to go to persons for healing and curing of this. I know of people who give affected persons “liquids” to throw around the household to keep away evil from entering the household and wearing taweez on themselves but is this a recommended practice and do these actually work as a means of keeping away evil? As a muslim, i believe that praying the five times daily salaat, keeping yourself clean at all times and reciting the Holy Quran is enough to keep away evil, then is it really necessary to use these as a means of keeping away evil?
Jazak Allah.

Answer:

Assalaamu Alaikum

The acts of Ibaadah like Salaah, recitation of Quraan etc. which a person does, would certainly help to keep the satans and evil Jinns away. However, at times, the nature of the evil is very bad and one may need to go to a person who is familiar with such matters. For example, a person may be affected with witchcraft or black magic in which case the forces of evil are very strong. Here, one may need the help of another person to fight of these evils, so that a person may not be harmed. For this, people, on account of their experiences may ask someone to wear Taweez with verses of the Holy Quraan or Duas inscribed on it. Reciting Quraan in the house regularly, serves as a greater protection and should be done, instead of throwing liquid around the house.

All these are based on experiences which have produced good results, hence, these will be allowed as long as they do not contain practices of kufr and shirk. In wearing the Taweez, one must always put his total trust and reliance on Allah and not on the Taweez. It is only Allah alone who can help and protect a person against all harms.
