Musafirs Salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalam-o-alaikum,

My office is about 91 miles from home. I dirve to my office daily and come back. For Zuhr and asr prayer, do I need to do Qasr prayer? Will I be a travel for the prayers I am in my office? If yes, can I join zuhr and asr prayers being a traveller?

wassalam,

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1)     If a person undertakes a journey of 48[1]miles or more, he will be a Musāfir [2] (traveler). He will have to perform Qasr Salah in Zohar, Asr, Esha Salah.

In your situation if you perform Zohar and Asr in your office, you will have to make Qasr.

2)     According to the Hanafi School of thought, every Salah must be performed at its prescribed time.

It is not permissible to join two Salats in one Salah time[3]. However, you may delay your Zohar until the end of Zohar time. When Asr time sets in, you perform your Asr Salah, these is apparent joining of two Salats but in its prescribed time.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
