The definition of Al Ma’lul

What is the definition of Al Ma’lul?

Answer

Al Ma’lul refers to a Hadith that apparently fulfils all the conditions of As Sahih [an authentic Hadith], but in reality it has a hidden defect which effectively renders that Hadith weak.

These subtle defects were usually extremely difficult to detect and were only identified by the Hadith experts.

(Refer: Ibnus Salah, pg. 89-93 and Sharhun Nukhbah, pg. 59 and 92)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
