Greeting twenty people after Fajr Salah

I have heard a Hadith that if a person makes salam to twenty people when he leaves the Masjid after reading Fajr in congregation, and he passes away on the same day, he will be forgiven.

Is this authentic?

Answer

Imam Daylami (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). However, the Muhaddithun have declared the Hadith a fabrication as the chain consists of a fabricator.

(Musnadul Firdaws, Hadith: 5664. Refer: Dhaylul La-Alil Masnu’ah,  vol. 1 pg. 411, Hadith: 487, Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2 pg. 119 and Lisanul Mizan, vol. 7 pg. 249)

The Hadith is not suitable to quote.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
