When should one recite the du’a for protection against shirk?

Should the following du’a for protection against shirk be recited in the morning for protection till the evening and in the evening for protection till the morning?

الَّلهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وأَنا أَعلَمُ وأَستَغفِرُكَ لما لا أَعلَمُ

Allahumma ini aujubika un ushrika bika wa ana a’lamu wa astaghfiruka lima la a’lamu

Answer

The Hadith is general and does not specify that a person who recites it in the morning will be protected till the evening. One version of this Hadith mentions reciting this du’a thrice, without specifying how frequently one should recite the du’a. (Nawadirul Usul, Hadith: 1527-1528)

Some Fuqaha (Jurists) have suggested reciting this du’a every morning and evening.

(Refer: Ad Durrul Mukhtar and Raddul Muhtar, vol. 4 pg. 230)

‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has also quoted a suggestion of reciting this du’a daily.

(Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 4934)
