Hasan Basri (rahimahullah) on weak conviction [yaqin]

Is this statement authentic?

قال الحسن البصري: يا ابن آدم إن من ضعف يقينك أن تكون بما في يدك أوثق منك بما في يد الله عز وجل

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has recorded this statement of Hasan Al Basri (rahimahullah) with a weak chain.

(Kitabul Yaqin, 34)

The narration is suitable to quote for inspirational purposes, as is the case with narrations of this nature.

Translation

Hasan Al Basri (rahimahullah) said:

“O Son of Adam! It is due you your weak conviction [yaqin] that you have more trust in what you own over what is in the control of Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla.”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
