Shaykh Afifi Al-Akiti Ash-Shafi’i’s Talk on Ikhtilaf Al-Ummah

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Shafiifiqh.com

This was an interview given in late August of 2009 on Radio IKIM.fm. in Malaysia. He discusses several issues of disagreement, such as the modern disagreement of the numbering of raka’at 8 or 20, he also states that we should champion the fact that disagreement amongst the Sunni Imams is a mercy, as claimed by the early Salaf. He discusses the issue of Bida’ah as well, quoting the commentary of our schools Imam, Imam An-Nawawi (rahmatullah ‘alayh) on this issue, and the stance of The Imam Ash-Shafi’i. He also challenges the literalist minhaj (methodology) in our times, and states that Ahlus Sunnah has balance.

At times he switches into Malay, but most of his lecture is in english, so the student will be able to benefit insha’allah.
