How Can I Distinguish between My Discharges with My Addiction?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question

I am 25 years old and badly addicted to pornography. I came to know about madhy and maniyy. I tried to understand my discharge fluid according to the definitions I found, but it seems mine wasn’t yellow. The consistency is either thick or thin, and the color is transparent or white.

When I masturbate I never use any devices, nor do I get extremely exhausted or relaxed, as it only takes half a minute for me. So is it considered madhy or maniyy? I am really trying to stop these sins, please guide me.

Answer

Thank you for your question. I am so very saddened to hear about your addiction and I pray that you rise above it and heal yourself from this and defeat all the odds, by Allah’s grace.

Madhy or Maniyy

Madhy is a discharge that exits while one’s arousal is building up, and maniyy exits when one is ‘finished’. Your question indicates that you finish after half a minute, so the final discharge would be considered maniyy, and a ritual bath would be obligatory. It would be obligatory also to wash madhy from your clothing, and it is better to wash the maniyy as well because scholars differ on its purity.
What is the definition of Madhy, Wady, and Many?

Addiction

I am afraid that this habit will destroy you. Other than its repulsive and sinful nature, the fact that you reach orgasm so quickly can mean very bad marital problems for your future. You must rectify this as soon as you can, and don’t let yourself go on. Set a goal, make lots of dua for guidance and help, and start implementing a plan to stop. The tiny illicit pleasures that you are feeling now will be the cause of great turmoil, pain and suffering in your future. Please think of Allah, think of your future husband, and have a longer vision.
