How Should I Supplicate for My Father To Find Another Job?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question:

My father is a doctor. Recently he resigned from his job because they were not giving him enough work. It was his main source of income besides other work, but I can see that he lost his job. Is there any dhikr to increase sustenance and wealth and get baraka? This incident has happened twice before. I was very lazy before, but now I really want to make dua for my father as he has done so much for me. Please provide some advice.

Answer:

Assalamu alaykum,

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for being dutiful, and I pray that you not only pray for him now during his times of difficulty but also after he has passed on as your du’as will be a continual charity for him.

Relying on Allah

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “If you were to rely upon Allah with the required reliance, then He would provide for you just as a bird is provided for, it goes out in the morning empty, and returns full. “[Tirmidhi] There is a great lesson in this; we must all learn to recognize that although one may have trouble in one area of one’s life, there is goodness in other areas that we shouldn’t forget about. One must also keep in mind that the greatest provision essential to happiness is faith and taqwa, and guidance; there is no material possession that can replace this.

Du’as

Having recognized that, one should do one’s utmost to fulfill one’s financial obligations in a halal way and take the means necessary to bring about this outcome. Recite the du’as and Qu’ranic verses as explained in the link, especially surah al-Waqi’ah, and leave the rest up to Allah. Always remember that money comes and goes, and don’t expect it to be constant in this world.
