Fluff Under Nails

Answered according to Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Does fluff under one’s nails make wudu and ghusl impossible?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

No, one can safely assume that water can get past fluff under one’s nails. Earth or caked grease would be another issue.

To judge how far the Shariah expects you to go, you have to study. But as a general rule, when no one else goes to such extremes or when you are clearly harming yourself or someone else, then you know you’ve gone too far.
