Question: How can I ward off laziness to review and memorize? How can I improve the zeal to memorize the Qur’an?
Answer: Assalamu alaykum,
The tremendous blessing that you have to be able to memorize Qur’an is like no other. If Allah has put you in a position to be able to do so, you should take every means and exhaust every effort to memorize it. The benefits are countless for yourself and for those around you.
Every Muslim must do something beneficial for the sake of Islam. Your memorization of the Qur’an is the protection of Islam and a cause for its continuation on this earth. This is because the success of Islam depends on the success of its children in carrying its knowledge in their hearts and acting upon it. On the other hand, its downfall will be a result of their downfall.
You have been specially chosen by Allah and granted the success to begin memorizing His Book. In the beginning, this task will not be easy. It will require patience and sacrifice to achieve reward and honor in this life, as well as happiness and elevation in the next. As you prepare yourself in your daily struggle to memorize the Glorious Qur’an, you will find many of your friends and classmates playing and spending their time in futile things. Do not let this distract you. Instead, continue your struggle and rest assured that, in the end, success will be given to those mature individuals who worked hard and knew how to spend their lives in a profitable trade with Allah.
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and give him peace, said, “Whoever recites the Qur’an and memorizes it, making lawful what it makes lawful, and unlawful what it makes unlawful, Allah will admit him to Paradise due to it, and grant him intercession for ten of his family members who were to be consigned to the Fire” [Tirmidhi].
Organize your time, memorize after the fajr prayer, and keep the company of those who are memorizing and know more than you. Also, keep away from images and screens, they make one forget what they have memorized.
