Thin Salat Clothes

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Hamza Karamali, SunniPath Academy Teacher

Can a woman wear Salat clothes that are thin, but don’t really show the color of the skin in light? If not, does she have to make up those prayers?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

As long as one cannot tell whether the woman has light or dark skin by looking through the clothing, she has fulfilled the obligation of covering her nakedness, and her prayers are valid and need not be made up (Bushra al-Karim).

Being able to see a silhouette of the body doesn’t necessarily affect the validity of the prayer; what matters is whether or not the skin-colour (i.e., whether it is dark or light) is apparent through the clothing.

And Allah knows best.

Hamza.
