Undergoing a Hair Transplant

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Is it permissible for a male who is bald to undergo a hair transplant?

A. Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that removes hair follicles from one part of the body, to a bald or balding part of the body using a minimally invasive procedure to restore a natural appearance of hair on one’s head.

In terms of Shariah, if there are no other alternatives available to restore one’s hair, it is permitted for one to undergo a hair transplant surgery or procedure if one faces psychological or social difficulties due to baldness

One should consult an experienced dermatologist and seek an alternative method before undergoing a hair transplant.
