Smoking break wudhu

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

I heard some person saying that smoking breaks wudhu. I dont think this is true, because I visited Islamic countries and people smoke and then they just walk into the mosque and start praying.

My question is according to Islamic Law does the wudhu break or not?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Smoking does not break ones wudhu, however, it is prefferable to clean the mouth throughly before you start your prayers or recitation of the Quran.
