Can we buy an business that sells liquor?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

I have a client who is interested to buy a gas station along with the food mart. Currently the food mart is selling alcohol. My client who is a dedicated Muslim would not like to sell alcohol and considering leasing the food mart to someone else. However, as a owner of the business he has to get a liquor license. Selling liquor at that location is important due to traffic. Is it ok to operate business in this manner or is it completely haram according to shariah. Please respond in detail.

Wudu does not break by this. If it is possible to do business without putting any prohibited (Haram) items, then it’s OK. If it is not possible then this sort of business would not be OK.
