Can women pray salaat with jamaat in masjid ? Is it allowed to have female Imam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org
1. Is it jaaiz for women to pray salaah with jamaat in a masjid with a non mahram male imaam, is this makruh?
2. can women pray salaah together with jama’at having a female imaam? If this is done in a school for ‘educational purposes’, is it allowed?
The jurist have prohibited for women to gather particularly for the congregation in a mosque especially during these days. If women gather by themselves at some place then they would pray individually. They are not supposed to pray in congregation. For them to pray behind someone who is non-mahram is not wrong. In another words it’s a different issue as to who is the imam. If women gather some place and there is non-mahram man leading the prayer and these ladies join the imam it is fine which is a different issue then going to the mosque specifically for congregations like regular other men.
