Working at a smoke shop or gas station for a student

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

I have a question regarding working at a smoke shop or gas station. My friends and few room mates work at smoke shop and their job is to sell tobacco related products, cigar and CBD’s(medicinal drug). The income that they earn throught selling those products, is it considered to be halal or haram? Basically the reason they work over there is to collect money for their university’s tution fees and also for rent and other purpose. Can you please provide help regarding this issue?

Jazakallahu khayr

Though selling tobacco and cigarettes and its income is not Haram but it’s not without کراہت (Karahat) either. Therefore, if one could avoid selling then it would be better otherwise there is room for selling it. And if some person is employee at such shop then there is no harm for him selling these products.
