Is Chain System / Network Marketing Halal?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Is Chain System / Network marketing permissible?

Answer

I pray you are well.

No, this type of marketing is not permitted. Scholars who have analyzed it in detail have concluded that some of its elements are, essentially, gambling. The payment is usually to enter into the scheme, and not for the product. [Usmani, Fiqh al-Buyu‘]

Seek some other form of employment. Intend to fulfill your obligations and support your dependants, and give some in charity. You’ll see the good of it in this life and the next.
