Are Uterus Transplants Allowed in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Can I undergo a transplant in order to have a child? I was born without a womb and would like to know if this would be permissible. If it is, are there any particular things one should bear in mind? For example, does the donor womb have to come from a Muslim woman?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful and Compassionate,

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I hope you are doing well, insha’Allah.

While there is a difference of opinion about organ transplants in Islam, major living legal authorities and fiqh councils affirm the permissibility of such transplants. [Islamic Fiqh Academy Journal]

This would include uterus transplants. [Ibid.]

What is not permitted is In Vitro Fertilization is done in other than the wife’s womb. See:

And Allah is the giver of success and facilitation.Wassalam,
