Is Wearing Coyote Fur Permissible?

Question: Assalam alaykum

I happend to buy a Canada Goose jacket having coyote fur. What is the islamic ruling for wearing fury made of coyote?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

In and of itself, it is permitted to wear the fur of a coyote because hair is generally deemed to be pure, and not filthy. The same applies to the vast majority of tanned hides.

But if animals are being treated cruelly in order to obtain the fur, such clothing would be best avoided, for the sake of Allah Most High, seeking to prevent the wrong (munkar).

Causing undue pain or harm to animals is a major sin. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Fear Allah in regards to your treatment of animals.” [Abu Dawud]
