Calculating Missed Prayer

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Sohail Hanif, SunniPath Academy Teacher

If you have missed many prayers since puberty but prayed some prayers more than others and do not know how many you have missed, then what should you do? Is it permissible to work out how many years you were not a regular worshipper, and pray all those prayers again regardless of if you had prayed some more than others?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, the inspirer of truth. All praise is to Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate, and all blessings and peace to our Master Muhammad, his family, companions, and those who follow them.

One should estimate the many prayers one needs to make up to the best of ones ability.  There is no need to make up prayers that one has already performed.

And Allah knows best, and He alone gives success.
