Using perfumed soap on hajj

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Last year, while on Hajj, I used perfumed soap to wash my hands and this year I did the same thing, only I also washed my face with the soap. Do I have to slaughter? What if I don”t have money at the moment? Could I delay it or fast instead? Practically, how would I got about slaughtering?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful, Most Kind.

Wa”alaikum asalaam warahamtu Allah,

Using perfumed soap on one limb e.g. a hand, or more (even if on the entire body) in one sitting necessitates one ”dam” – or the slaughtering of a sheep. So if one washed one”s hands several times, this necessitates dam for each time.

One may not fast instead of slaughtering. If one doesn”t have the means, the obligation remains in one”s responsibility and one fulfills it when he is able. The slaughtering must take place in the Haram of Makkah. [See Hashiyah of Ibn ”Abideen.] There are many organizations there which would take care of this for you. If you know someone who is going for ”umrah or hajj, you can ask them to do it on your behalf.
