Can I carry my parents’ shopping bags which contain some non-halal items?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

When my parents go shopping, and come back home, they ask me to get the groceries from the car. The problem is that sometimes they buy some products which aren’t halal. The reason why I really want to get everything for them, is because they’re not so young anymore, and I want to relieve them of the burden of bringing the groceries inside. Is it alright for me to bring all the groceries inside or can I only bring the halal products?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It would not be wrong for you to carry such groceries in your situation: you are carrying bags, not assisting them in their sin.

But you have to deal with them regarding the consumption of such items according to the fiqh of commanding the good and forbidding the wrong. (Search for term at www.sunnipath.com.)

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
