Is it haram to sell wigs?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

As mentioned in detail in an earlier post that it is prohibited to join one’s hair with the hair of another human or to wear a wig made out of human hair. The reason being is that it is not permitted to use any part of the human body, except in the most pressing and dire of situations, for the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) specifically forbade that the hair of one person be used by another. (Sahih al-Bukhari, no: 5589)

However, the Fuqaha permit using a wig made from animal hair (other than a pig) or synthetic fibres, regardless of whether the hair is completely fitted into one’s hair or it is a removable wig. (See: al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya, 5/358)

Based on the above, if your job entails managing and assisting the sales of wigs that are made from human hair, then it will not be permitted to take up that job. If, however, your job entails selling wigs that are made from other than human hair, it will be permitted. In the case of you selling both types of wigs, consideration will be taken of the majority. In this case also, it would be best to refrain from selling wigs made from human hair.

And Allah knows best
