Pregnant: Tarawih Sitting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Just to clarify, I can sit and pray my 20 rakahs of tarawih because tarawih is a confirmed sunnah and not a wajib, correct? I’m expecting a baby and it will be a lot easier on my back to sit and pray, even though standing does not cause unbearable pain.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is permitted to pray tarawih (being a sunna) sitting. When there is an excuse, it is not even considered ‘other than the optimal.’

It is good to have the resolve, in one’s heart, though, that if one was able one would pray standing.

And Allah alone give success.

Walaikum assalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
