Tirmidhi-Chapter: Reagarding the person who intends to keep fast but is in the state of Janabah in Fajr time.
It is reported by A’isha and Umm Salama (Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) would wake up in Fajr time in a state of major ritual impurity, perform ghusl, and fast. [Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi]
It is understood from the above chapter of Tirmidhi that being in the state of Janabah (major ritual impurity) does not invalidate the fast, this is according to the four Imams and Jumhoor (majority). (Darse Tirmidhi Vol. 2 Pg. 616)
Also, the Fardh Ghusl has to be made to ensure that Fajr Salah is performed in its correct time. One will be sinful if the Ghusl is delayed to the extent that Salah becomes Qadhaa.
It is mentioned in al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya that,
“If one wakes up after Fajr time enters in a state of major ritual impurity (Janaba) or has a wet dream during the day, this does not affect one’s fast, as mentioned in Muhit al-Sarakhsi.” [1.200]
However, it will be Makruh (disliked) to fast whilst impurity.
And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
