Q: When one makes wudu in the hanafi maddhab does he have to wash his hands while saying bismillah or bismillah hir rahman niraheem or there is no difference? Also when you wash yours hands you say bismillah while washing hands or before washing hands?
A: It is sunnah for one to recite: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيْم before commencing the wudhu (i.e. before washing the hands till the wrists). One can also recite in place of بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيْم the following two duas:
1. بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِله
2. بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِله عِلَى دِيْنِ الْإسْلَام
And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
وعن أبي هريرة قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم ك : يا أبا هريرة إذا توضأت فقل : بسم الله والحمد لله فإن حفظتك تستريح تكتب لك الحسنات حتى تحدث من ذلك الوضوء رواه الطبراني في الصغير وإسناده حسن (مجمع الزوائد #1112)
وسننه … ( البداية بالنية ) … ( و ) البداءة ( بالتسمية ) قولا وتحصل بكل ذكر لكن الوارد عنه عليه الصلاة والسلام باسم الله العظيم والحمد لله على دين الإسلام (الدر المختار 1/103)
