My husband drinks alcohol and forces me to drink

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My husband drinks alcohol and he forces me to drink, should a muslim wife do that to obey her husband?

Bismillaah

A: Alcohol is haraam in Islam. It is impermissible for the wife to obey her husband in things that are declared haraam in Islam. Obedience towards the husband is on account of Shariah commanding the wife to do so. Hence, when the husband commands the wife to do something against Shariah, Shariah commands that the husband be disobeyed in that aspect.
