Is it better to have more than one wife?

Q: Is it better to have more than one wife in islam? As in Quran the ayat starts with marrying two or three or four. If they cannot be just to more than one, only then they should marry one. And our Prophet and all the Sahabah (as far I know) had more than one wife. So is it more appreciated in Islam to have more than one wife?
