Giving consent for qurbaani to be done on one’s behalf

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Every year, on the days of qurbaani, my father appoints another person to carry out the slaughtering of a cow on our behalf (we are 4 members as a family). This is done every year with the knowledge of all the members.

1. Is this method correct?

2. Despite having the knowledge of it, is it compulsory for me to give my consent verbally?

Bismillaah

A:

1. It is correct.

2. By informing you and you being happy and not refusing is in actual fact giving consent.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
