What is considered as one long Ayah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If one has to recite only one Ayah in a rakat of a Salah how long it should be?

A: It should be at least equivalent to three small aayats.

Q: Does this mean that it could consist of only 3 words because the smallest aayats consists of one word and some even one letter only?

A: There are various statements of the fuqahaa in this respect. Some say that it is just one letter. Others say that it is three and other say that it is 18. The most preferred and safest statement is that it should be a minimum of 30 huroof. Refer to Fataawaa Mahmoodiyah and Ahsan-ul-Fataawaa.
