Marrying a woman who has children out of wedlock

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to marry a Christian lady who is ready to convert to Islam. However, she has two young kids aged, 2 yrs and 4 yrs. The kids, as she told me, were born out of wedlock. What does Mufi saheb say in light of Qur’an and Sunnah about marrying a lady described above and what will be the relationship between me and kids?

Bismillaah

A: Children born out of wedlock are attributed to the mother. The biological father is not recognized as their father and has no responsibility towards them or right over them. Similarly, if the woman marries, the children will not be the responsibility of the step father.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
