Assalamualaikum. A muslim friend in France liked her christian colleague and then started living with him without getting married. Then she had a daughter & that is when she started feeling guilty that what she has done is not right. She wants to know what is she allowed to do now. Shall she persuade the same man to convert and then marry him but for this it may take long time or she immediately cuts every relation with him?. Kindly guide please
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The guilty feeling of your muslim friend is a sign and reflection of her sense of Imaan. The guilty feeling is also from Allah. She should value the feeling and use it in the right direction in order to experience barakah and blessings in her life.
She should inform the person of her guilt and the wrong she did according to Islam. Inform him that she is duty bound to terminate all contact with him. If he accepts Islam, he could marry her. Make tauba to Allah and never repeat the mistake in future.
Your friend should focus on the proper upbringing of her child according to Islamic values.

إذا كانت المرأة مسلمة فلا يجوز إنكاح المؤمنة الكافر؛ لقوله تعالى: {ولا تنكحوا المشركين حتى يؤمنوا} [البقرة: 221] ولأن في إنكاح المؤمنة الكافر خوف وقوع المؤمنة في الكفر؛ لأن الزوج يدعوها إلى دينه، والنساء في العادات يتبعن الرجال فيما يؤثرون من الأفعال ويقلدونهم في الدين إليه وقعت الإشارة في آخر الآية بقوله عز وجل: {أولئك يدعون إلى النار} [البقرة: 221] لأنهم يدعون المؤمنات إلى الكفر، والدعاء إلى الكفر دعاء إلى النار؛ لأن الكفر يوجب النار، فكان نكاح الكافر المسلمة سببا داعيا إلى الحرام فكان حراما،
