Bleeding for more than 40 days after nifaas

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I just had a baby in December 2017. He is now 8 weeks. I had some bleeding after he was born. After the 40 days I was still bleeding. Now on the 8th week I did ghusl. And again I see brown discharge. I already read my today’s namaaz. And after maghrib I got a brown discharge. Can I still read namaz?

Bismillaah

A: If it was the first birth then the maximum period of postnatal bleeding is 40 days. You were supposed to take the ghusl after the 40th day. If you have not done so then do qadha of all the namaaz after the 40th day. After this you may follow your original routine of haidh and tuhr.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
