Answer:

When a person intends to travel for 78kms or more, it becomes permissible for him to perform Qasr Salaah after he leaves the boundary of his locality. During this period of journey or travel he can omit the Sunnahs if he desires. Although performing them is advised. On reaching his destination, if he intends staying for less than 15 days then he is allowed to make Qasr and the same ruling above will apply. In this instance however it will be even more desirable to perform his Sunnahs even though he may omit it if need be. Should he however intend staying for longer than 15 days he will have to read the Faraaidh in full together with the Sunnahs.

As per the decision of the South African Mufti’s in the last seminar of the JAM’IATUL MUFTEEN the distance for Qasr will be 78 km.

And the Safar amount will be measured from the end of the residential area of your suburb to the starting the residential area of your destination.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
