Playing Computer Games

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

Mufti Saheb, I would like to know if I am allowed to play video games if mute my TV so no music is heard. I know these games have animate object, but what about animate object that are not real, (monsters, etc.) like Pokemon games.

Jazakallah.

Answer:

Islam does not encourage the individual to spend his time in futile activities. It rather encourages him to engage himself in such activities that will continue taking him closer to Allah. The individual should prefer doing such things which will earn the pleasure of Allah, e.g. memorizing Qur’an, doing Zikr of Allah etc. If one has free time and he desires to play, then he can do so, providing there is no music. His playing should not intervene with the timings of his acts of worship.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
