Sitting and Reading Salaah, etc

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Could you please inform me regarding a persons Salaah in a sitting posture whilst seated in a vehicle, plane, train.
1. who may read and when?
2. How shall one read?
3. How will one do Qiyaam? Will Qiyaam be Fardh?

If an Imam makes a error in Qiraat in Salaah which changes the meaning, he is corrected before he proceeds to Ruku, he repeats the verse what will be Hukum of the Salaah? Shall it have to be repeated?

Answer:

1.      The Shari’ah has permitted one to perform Salaah while travelling in a vehicle, plain, train and bus on condition the traveller is incapable of dismounting at the time of Salaah. If one has the ability to stand and perform Salaah, then it would be incumbent upon such a person to fulfil his Salaah while standing regardless of the mode of transport one is using. However, if a person is incapable of standing, due to an ailment, then he/she should perform Salaah while seated. In such an instance the person should find a suitable place to sit and perform his/her Salaah whilst facing the Qiblah.  (Fataawaa Mahmoodiyah, Vol. 14, Page 229)

2.      If the Imam makes a mistake in the Qiraa’at, due to which the Salaah breaks, but immediately rectifies his mistake, then there would be no need to repeat the Salaah. The Salaah is valid. However, if the mistake was not corrected then the Salaah will have to be repeated. (Fataawaa Raheemiyah, Vol. 4, Page 308, Ahsanul Fataawaa, Vol. 3, Page 445)
