Are there any hadiths regarding the prohibition of women cutting their hair?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Are there any hadiths regarding the prohibition of women cutting their hair?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

“The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has prohibited women from jummah and qussah for slave girls.” (Tabraani p.133 v.1)

The narrators of this hadith are thiqaat (reliable)

There are two meanings for the word “jummat.”

Hair which reaches the shoulders
Hair which reaches the ears

Therefore, one can deduce through the aforementioned hadith and the fatwa, which has been given on this subject that it is impermissible for women to cut their hair.
