What is the punishment for erasing emails of Quranic verses or Ahaadees on a mobile or computer?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria
Assalamu Alaikum! people use to send e-mail messages of Ayaat of Qur’an or Ahaadees etc. in mobile or computer. When they erase these, are they committing a sin equal to erasing of Qur’an? What will be the punishment for it since we have been hearing since childhood that burning Qur’an, tearing or putting them in the ocean are all sinful acts. Now how many people are deleting Qur’ani messeges from mobiles and computers? Therefore Mufthi Sahib, please issue a Fatwa as to what is correct and what is wrong.

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

In the outset, it should be noted that considering the ruling with regard to erasing of messages written on mobile screens as similar to the ruling of erasing that which is written on walls, papers and cloth etc. is not correct. Secondly, when there is permissibility of erasing the holy name of the Almighty written on walls etc due to fear of being ill-mannered, what is wrong in erasing mobile messages which doesn’t carry even this doubt. As such, according to Shari’a, there is nothing wrong in erasing such messages and one should refrain from falling into unnecessary doubts as such.
