Preferable way of reciting Qur’an? Just reciting or with the translation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

I would like to know which is the preferable way of reciting Qur’an? Just reciting or with the translation? However, it is rewardable either way, yet Allah has revealed this Kithab for the guidance of the mankind and nowadays most people just recite it and do not know what Allah Tha’ala has said in it whereas in Ayath no 29 of Sura Saad Allah Tha’ala says ” we have revealed a blessed book unto you so that people ponder over the Ayaath and the wise find advice therefrom” Please guide. Jazakallah

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

If reciting is the only purpose, then it is also allowed to recite alone, without pondering over the meanings, and that is a source of great reward and an individual Ibadath in itself. It is far more excellent if an opportunity is availed from an authentic religious Alim who possesses expertise in Thafseer (Commentary) of the Holy Qur’an, to learn Tharjama (Translation) and Thafseer. There is a strong possibility of making mistakes by trying to self-understand just by going through the Urdu Translation. Nevertheless, with the opinion of authentic religious Alim, can learn, and it would be much better to refer him for directions in understanding Mubham Ayaath (ambiguous phrases).
