How should I give zakat on my Jewellery?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

It is one year since I got married and I have to give zakath on my jewellery. What I want to ask is that my husband is not financially in sound situation to become Sahib e Nisab. How should I give zakat on my Jewellery?

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

If the applicant possesses in her ownership 12 ½ Tola of Gold or 52 ½ Tola Silver, or, some Cash some Gold some Silver and some Merchandise with a cumulative value equalling 52 ½ Tola or more of Silver, then she will be considered in Shari’a as a Sahib e Nisab (Possessor of wealth to give Zakath). After the lapse of one lunar year from the time of her ownership to the said amount of wealth it becomes necessary on her to give 40th part of her wealth as Zakath. Payment of this 40th part could be made either in gold and silver or in cash and the rulings for both are the same.
