Is it allowed to dye or blacken the hairs of scalp(head) or beard?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

Assalamu alaikum, some people though young look old due to greying of hairs, is it allowed to dye or blacken the hairs of scalp(head) or beard, thanq

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

Elucidation with regard to dyeing of hair is that it is Makrooh to dye solely with black colour according to the view of the majority of the Jurists and elders. Imam Aboo Yousuf and some other Imams are of the view that it is permissible for wife’s pleasure. However the precaution and the religious decree is that except for a warrior in the path of Allah it is Makrooh e Thahreemi for others to use black dye and it is necessary to abstain from it. Further, other than pure black dye or pure black Mehehdi it is undoubtedly permissible, rather, praiseworthy to use any other colour
