Let it be known that MOULA is a word in Arabic language. In the literal meaning it stands for Rab- Sustainer, Madadgar-Protector, Aaqa-Master, Sardar-Chief, Rehnuma- Guide, Ghulam-Slave and Nowker-Srevant etc and it is used in many opposite meanings, and NA is the pronoun for the third person plural term which is joined with the word MOULA. Likewise the meaning of these two, sounds Our Master, Our Chief, Our Guide, Our Servant etc. and determined by the pattern of each composition, according to the occasion and taking into consideration the status of the personality, whereas the Ayath in Sura e Baqara (ANTHA MOULANA) is meant for The Doer in the meaning of The One upon whom the Matters are Submitted.
In Ahadees e Mubaraka ex. In Saheeh ul Bukhari (528/1) it is mentioned that Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam has said referring to Hadhrath Zaid Radhiyallau Anhu ANTHA AKHOONA WA MOULANA ( You are our brother and Moula). Also a Hadees is narrated (in Mirquaath 472/10) about Hadhrath Ali Radhiyallahu Anhu that a group of people came to him and called him ASSALAMU ALAIKA YA MOULANA (May Salam be upon you our Moula!). In these instances the former is in the meaning of FREED SLAVE and in the latter is in the meaning of CHIEF and LEADER and, for the learned Ulamas generally the word Moulana is used in the meaning of Chief and Leader as a matter of respect.
Therefore it is necessary to refrain from undue confusions and doubts.
Allah knows best.
