Performing Salah on the plane

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

What is the ruling regarding Ṣalāh in an aeroplane? Does it have to be repeated?

Answer

If a person who is able to perform Qiyām performs the obligatory Ṣalāh in an aeroplane in the state of ablution facing the Qiblah in a standing position in the usual manner, the Ṣalāh is valid and does not need to be repeated.

However, if a person is unable to do so, he must perform Ṣalāh on the seat of the plane by Ishārah (making gestures) if the Ṣalāh time will expire, and repeat it after reaching the destination. (For further details, refer to our earlier answer).
